Morphological Study of the Changing Built Environment of Budapest
Details of the Study Phase
Information gathered by students of Architecture at the Technical University of Budapest during the 1995/96 spring term for an Urban Design exercise would be processed by computer. This information would then be brought together as a hypertext presentation. Data on the following aspects could be presented:
- Distance and accessibility of the research areas from downtown Budapest
- Major arteries, crossing points, nodes , significant buildings, monuments, historical preservation zones, buildings of historic value, elements determining the local identity of the environment
- Historic development review using former maps of the area
- Updates to base map provided
- Morphological study of the area: typical plot measures, "typical aversions"
- Black and white maps
- Density analysis
- Disual character study incl. typical architectural styles, details, etc.
- Functional analysis, no. of flats, residual density, mapping of functions on street level, private/public/semi-public zones, etc.
- Traffic flows: danger zones, parking, garages, business traffic/local traffic, noise, pollution, use of public spaces, derelict spaces, etc.
- Spatial study ("walls", space structures, etc.)
- Social study: residents survey, mobility, age structure, use of spaces, children, development need, ownership, management and maintenance issues, etc.
- Development proposals of students
- Local building regulations - existing and violations - summary sheet of regulations.
This phase would be executed on a number of areas using results of students work.
Objective: to develop an education package that would integrate the use of computer for future student projects.
