Project Purpose

Utilisation of new technology

At present it appears that there exists little research into the possible application to architecture of data presentation and communication techniques made possible by modern technology i.e. 'The Internet' and 'Multi-Media' presentation. This is technology which exists now and is readily implementable.

Value to academic community

This project has been initiated because it is thought that there are significant possibilities for the advancement of architectural research; particularly by bringing existing data together into a readily accessible and coherent database of information (in a variety of formats - graphical, statistical etc.).

Accessibility and cooperation

The use of the Internet computer network would allow for data to be readily accessible nationwide as a coherent whole whilst being generated and maintained at a local level. It would also provide the possibility for greater international cooperation.

Base for further study

Such a nationwide system would, as well as providing a comprehensive and coherent database, be an easily extendible base for further architectural information.
