Donner was the greatest Central-European Baroque sculptor. Born in Austria, he worked for 11 years, in Bratislava, for the Archbishop of Ostriholm, I. Esterhazi. He had a workshop in the Archbishop's summer pallace. These were some of the most productive years of his life. His most famous sculpture is that of St. Martin on his horse which can be found in the dom sv. Martina (Cathedral of St. Martin).
