Franciscan Square

History

The traces of settlement date back to the late stone age. However the square as it is today took shape in the 13th century. In the Middle Ages it was used as a market as its old titles show; "Bread Market" (Chlebovy trh), "Fish Market" (Rybny trh). Later it was named Franciscan Square (Frantiskanske namestie) after the Franciscan monastery founded there.
