Kapitol Street

General information

This street developed close to the city walls. The earliest settlement on this site is from the early stone age. This is also the probable site for the Celtic Priest Biatec in the first century BC. The street in its present form came about in the 13th century when the Roman Catholic Capitol was moved here from the castle. In the middle ages this street was called Ulica knazov (Priest Street). In the 16th Century the whole street was destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt in the 17th Century with new church administration buildings. The Street's present day name dates from 1879

This is widely thought to be one of the most beautiful streets in Bratislava.
