Architecture

General Information

There are two more bridges over the danube within Bratislava, one newer and one older. However this is the most impressive. The construction on top of the main pylon houses a restaurant which boasts panoramic views of the River Danube and the city.

History

The bridge was opened oficially on the 26th of August 1972 - three days before the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising on the 29th. It was originally called Most Slovenskeho narodneho povstania (Slovak National Uprising Bridge). After the revolution in 1989 it was given its present name.

During the construction of this bridge and its access roads almost all of the Jewish quarter of the town was demolished, including a beautiful synagogue.
