Panska Ulica

History

This street was established from what was orignally an important trading route in the middle ages. Together with, what is today called Laurinsk Street (Laurinska ulica), it was called Long Street (Dlha Ulica). In the 18th century, when the nobility built their pallaces here, it was given the name Lord Street (Panska Ulica) then later on Zici Street (Ziciho Ulica) and Nalepkova Street (Nalepkova ulica). Where the street wideneds towards what is now the New Bridge (Novy most) there once stood the Vydricka Gate (Vydricka brana) which was built in the 14th century and demolished at the end of the 18th century. The majority of the buildings are built on the sites of older Gothic and Renaissance buildings which once belonged to Bratislava's craftsmen and traders.
