This square, in front of the Dom sv. Martina (Cathedral of St. Martin), was established in 1778 on the site of what had been, up until then, a cemetery. In 1918 it was given the name Rudnayovo Namestie (Rudnay Square) after the Archbishop of Esztergom, A.Rudnay who was a supporter of the Bernolak group of National Awakeners.
