Architecture

This baroque column is one of the so called "plague columns". It commemorates the epidemic of 1711-1713 in which 3860 of the towns inhabitants died. The column was built on the orders of Archbishop Christian August in 1713. The sculptures of St Stephen (Austro-Hungarian King) was created by J Sarty in the mid 18th century.
